To build Fort Deseret in 1865, one hundred Mormon men toiled for eighteen days. It was erected in 1895 to guard inhabitants in the adjacent town of Deseret, where this school was later established for sale in 1895 as a school for the offspring of Mormon pioneers. It took the place of an earlier school that was located there. A larger school was constructed in 1914, and in 1919, Louis Schoenberger purchased the school at auction, converting it into a residence and boarding house for educators. It was Mr. Schoenerger’s long-term residence until his passing in 1972. Even though it has been vacant for a while, the structure is still referred to as Scheoenberger Place.
